Fellowship in Embryology

Things you need to know about Embryologists

Embryology is a comprehensive study of human reproductive biology and assisted reproductive technology (ART). It is a developing field that has observed enormous growth in the past two decades. It is expected that it will continue to rise and highly-educated clinical embryologists will be needed as a result. Here are a few essential things that must know about embryologists who have entered into this evolving field.

1. Embryologists are Scientists

Embryologists are considered scientists involved in fertility treatments in the reproductive medicine field. They are scientists but they do discuss treatments with patients, and verifying success rates and statistics. They collect fully-developed eggs from the egg donor (women) and assess the sperm samples from the male partner in order to yield successful fertilization. The process is done in the laboratory dish, which means outside the human body.

2. Doing IUI, IVF & ICSI are their responsibilities

Clinical embryologists mainly perform egg retrieval process and assist in in vitro fertilization(IVF) process. Embryologists often work in hospitals or fertility clinics, where they perform ART procedures in the state-of-the-art laboratories.

3. Timely completion of strict procedures

A team of embryologists in the lab typically works from 10am-6pm. IVF treatment is confined to a strict timeline. Procedures must be done within a specified time and sometimes, they may have to examine 20 embryos. Each embryologist is assigned a task of freezing or thawing embryos, collecting eggs, and preparing sperm samples. There are many regulations, so they make sure that they record everything whatever they do, and sign off each procedure. There’s also a great deal of paperwork too.

The candidates who are seeking embryology training in India should possess degree in biological sciences. International Institute of Reproduction and Fertility Training (IIRFT) offer embryology training and various short-term courses like Basic Course in Semenology IUI, Advanced Course in ICSI, Introductory Course in ART, Certificate Course in ART and Advanced Course in Cryopreservation.
